Transfers, or lack of / Job for Life / Superman

Hello Gooners, another week passes and no new signings to speak of. Well the only one we can speak about isn't even a player it was a physio Neal Reynolds from carrot crunchers Norwich City, but who wants to wax lyrical about that? The only good thing is that hopefully the new physio will have some magic David Blaine like powers and heal sicknote waving Robin van Persie and Tomáš Rosický. Well we can hope can't we?

So about three, four weeks ago Arsene Wenger said he was going to make a signing in the next two or three weeks, not happened has it? I'm not getting to stressed out about not signing a player but please Wenger don't make a statement like that and don't follow it up. When Le Gaffer came out with that statement I had a thought that he had already signed the player or players in question and was just waiting for the ink to dry before announcing the new faces, wrong! It seems Le Gaffer has spoken too soon in terms of when a signing was going to be made. After all the hullabaloo surrounding the imminent signing of Samir Nasri, where sites were going absolutely mental, some claiming 'exclusively' Nasri had signed, he was spotted at London Colney, he had his squad number, some probably claimed he was the man on the grassy knoll. Any road up three weeks on and no signing it now appears that Wenger has taken a backward step by announcing that Nasri wont be signed until after the European Championships.

You can just see it can't you Gooners? Samir Nasri plays a stormer in Euro2008, his price tag is hiked up beyond Wenger's fiscal £3m - £5m price range and he goes to Real Madrid, Barcelona, CSKA Chelsea or even Big Four Club Spurs™. So, it doesn't seem we're going to sign any player any time soon, as this doesn't appear to be any 'mind games' on the part of Wenger. Wenger of course for those who have been following events will be commenting for some French TV station on Les Bleus Euro 2008 games. Well it 's a great way to spot some talent but I would sooner Wenger be in his office on the blower 24/7 finalising deals for these 'big talents' he's been chatting about.

The board seems more than happy with Wenger with The Telegraph reporting that Wenger will be given a job for life by The Arsenal. I'm not sure about you Gooners but I think that's dangerous. Le Gaffer hasn't won a trophy for three years and the last time we won the league was four years ago. I'm not saying Le gaffer wont win a stitch in the next three years (his contract expires in 2011) but if he doesn't would you still want him at the helm? I guess all the Arsene Knows Brigade AKA AKB's (thanks for that Le-Grove, I could of called them something else like posse, squad, foundation or what have you but why split hairs?) would want Wenger there whatever the cost. Just reading over this it seems like I'm knocking Wenger, believe it or not I'm not having a go at him I just think it's ridiculous to offer a coach a ' job for life'. It's all well and good if that coach is successful but when he hasn't won anything for four to five years, is it such a great idea?

On a lighter note we've been linked to another player I have never heard of. Not sure who thought this one up but Hamburg's Piotr Trochowski is the next one apparently on The Arsenal radar. But I think it must be a joke as the attacking midfielder is only 5' 6"! 5' 6' where the hell is he going to play? Are The Arsenal going to be entering some midget football championships or something? 5' 6'? He's shorter than my nephew, and my nephew is five!

OK lets finish today on a real bright note and lets not get too down because we aren't witnessing any transfers shenanigans. That bright note is that Eduardo reckons he'll be back tail end of July. Now not sure about you Gooners but that to me is like Superman type recovery, just hide any kryptonite that might be lying around. Maybe Eduardo can have a chat about the powers of Recovery to Robin van Persie and Tomas Sicky, either that or get them to drink whatever is in the Brazilian water, seems to have done the trick for Eduardo.
