So looks like Arsene Wenger is set to sign another 21 year old. Not sure about you Gooners out there but I want to see some experience being bought in not more 17, 18, 19, 20 or 21 year olds coming in. I know Wenger is planning and has half an eye on the future but our future is bright, we've got more youngsters in our squad than Michael Jackson had running around is Neverland Ranch. So the name of this new 'super, super signing'? Well it's none other than midfielder Amaury Bischoff (yup, never heard of him either) who will be signed up by way of Werder Bremen. So far this summer Wenger hasn't really done what I thought he set out to do, sign some experience. But then again why am I so surprised? I think if Wenger went out and bought someone in the 26+ bracket we all would have seizures. So it doesn't come as any surprise that the wily coach has signed up another 21 year old.
Question is though, is Bischoff any better than what we have at the moment? Is he better than Abou Diaby who must champing at the bit to play in central midfield rather than on the wing? Is he better than Denilson, who by all accounts had a bit of a injury ravaged quiet season? Well we'll see soon enough or maybe not as Bischoff is proper injury prone. So no doubt he'll keep Gary Lewin's successor busy and can be mates with perennial sicknote wavers Tomas Sicky and Robin van Persie. I think I read somewhere this guy Bischoff has only played one game in four seasons! Why the hell are we buying injury prone players? Are we really that skint? Although it could be all smoke and mirrors, oh well we can hope can't we? Well now that Euro 2008 is over I'm sure the transfer shenanigans will kick off big style, so lets see if Wenger picks up a quality centre back that we are all screaming out for.
Speaking of centre backs, who would be an ideal candidate for us? Who would make us that much better as a defensive unit? It's all a bit too quiet for my liking on getting hold of a defender. I think getting a top quality defender is priority, much more important than getting a striker. Although if that greedy twat Adebayor wants more cash, we should off load him and cash in on him and grab another quality hitman, Samuel Eto'o, David Villa or even that goal machine Peter Crouch anyone? OK I'm only joking about Peter 'Robo-Dancer' Crouch people.
The bottom line is we need a defender, question is was Wenger bluffing when he said he was happy with his defence? Also was Wenger bluffing when he said he would review the captaincy? How many of you out there would be happy for William Gallas to retain the captaincy? I wasn't convinced when Gallas got made captain, but that had admittedly had a lot to do with him his CSKA Chelsea connections. However I thought the mouthy mohawk wearing mentalist would come good, which he did in parts. Well until Birmingham City away. Enough said about that caper the better eh? Any road up, who do you Gooners want or think should be the new captain? In my opinion is had to be someone who is 'Arsenal', someone who would bleed Arsenal, someone who has Arsenal in their heart, someone just because they have one good season isn't threatening to leave because they want a shedload more moolah. I think Kolo Touré should be made the main man as he would run through brick walls for The Arsenal cause and has the respect of his fellow players, that and he's a big bstad so people would listen to him. I would have Touré as my captain and have WonderBoy™ TheCesc as his vice captain. Cesc Fabregas may only be 21 but he's a very mature 21 year old and especially after his Barcelona criticism last week you know this is a player who has The Arsenal as his main priority and not wanting to do one at the slightest whiff of a few extra Euro's from one of Europe's so called dream teams.
Retirement looking 24 year old Emmanuel Adebayor has entered into a brand new pay dispute with The Arsenal. News reaches us from London Colney that due to The Togonator™ being on time for training for five days straight he wants a pay rise. The big fella is citing 'good behaviour and proper conduct' for his reasons behind a new pay hike. Currently it is not known whether The Arsenal hierarchy will bow down to the big headed strikers demands as he's being paid for what he should be doing anyway.
The worst transfer linkage so far has to be Peter Crouch to The Arsenal or even Adebayor to CSKA Chelsea. But what transfer shenanigans can beat those? Get your own rumour mill stories in and I'll post the most way out ones. How about Wenger to go for AC Milan star Gennaro Gattuso or even finally landing Harry Kewell, well what with his sicknote waving shenanigans, he'd be ideal.
