So will Flamini sign up

For the last few months midfield dynamo Mathieu Flamini has been 'allegedly' tapped up by AC Milan, Internazionale and Juventus whilst we wait for him to sign his contract. However the player is out injured and will sit out the next three weeks at least. Obviously not a good thing to have the bulldog of the park out as he is very much an essential cog in the Arsenal wheel. What good does come of this is that the flying Frenchman has previously said he wants to concentrate on football rather than the 'distraction of contract talks' or that's the line his 'advisors' have been feeding us. Well  by count Flamini has a good 21 days to read through his new extended contract as he wont be playing much football in that time.

However will he sign? He said he wants to stay. The manager says he wants him to stay, the players say they want Flam the Man to stay, the fans want the Gaelic with grit to stay and even Tony Blair would (anything for some self promotion) tell you he wants The Flamster to stay. So now comes the test, he has all the time on his hands to sign his contract - but will he do it?

I must admit if Flamini doesn't sign up I would blame Arsene Wenger for letting his contract run out. How many managers let influential  and instrumental players contracts run out? It kind of reminds me when Wenger let Brazilian midfielder Edu's contract to run out, the same summer he sold Patrick Vieira to Juventus. Not very good planning that on Wenger's part, as Edu had a lot to offer the midfield - like experience and a decent left foot. However lets not dwell on that and hope Flamini signs up and fast. I reckon it will be a good shot in the arm for the rest of the players if he did say 'I'm staying - I want to be part of this' - so lets see.

What's he been drinking

Newcastle United striker Obafemi Martins must be drinking the same strong stuff as Alex 'Old 65% Proof Nose' Ferguson has been necking. I'm not sure if the media have just found the articles from last summer insisting that The Arsenal were after the speedy player or if they think summer has come early this time round. Anyway the Nigerian striker has come out (easy!) to say he wants to remain with the Geordie boys. Now not sure about you but even last summer I don't remember anyone connected to Arsenal confirming or denying that we were remotely interested in signing the former Inter man. Not saying we shouldn't of given it a go, as we could of so done with another striker to ease the load on Adebayor as Robin van Persie is such a work shy layabout you would of thought he was a scouser. Anyroad up those 'Martins to Arsenal' stories have reared their heads already. The media seem to be given it a lot of air play, however it's probably a ruse on the players' agents part to get him an improved deal - well it worked for them and him last summer, why not this summer. So it looks like Martins is playing the 'I want to stay at Newcastle as long as you top up my money' card already, that or like I said he has been drinking far too much Buckfast.

60 Second Round-up

Hleb speaks up: Belorussian ice cream loving play maker Alex Hleb has echoed what most Arsenal fans have been saying recently - refs have cost us. The midfielder who has a shooting phobia has said many of the recent refereeing decisions have been monstrous. Hleb also goes onto say about Crozilian hitman Eduardo's injury stating "Eduardo is out for a year, maybe more. His future is under a question mark. The guy who did it was only disqualified for three games. Is it an adequate punishment?"....PFA Player of the year awards: Arsenal duo Cesc Fabregas and Emmanuel Adebayor have been short listed for the PFA Player of the Year Awards. Not sure why the FA feel to make a shortlist this year as that pikey ladyboy Riverdancing Ronaldo has had that won since December... Make some news: Arsenal blog Le Grove (a great site by the way) is trying to get something done about the noise level (or lack of more to the point) have butchers on their site and add your thoughts or alternatively you  can jump onto the Allgoonerdup Forum and stick your thoughts on their - Ashburton Grove - Bring the noise and we'll get the ideas together and send them as well as ours onto the Le Grove boys... We are Arsenal. Let's do it for Eduardo.

Allgoonerdup: Tool of the week image
Allgoonerdup: Tool of the Week section dedicated to a player/manager/ref for being - well basically - a tool
Dirk Kuyt
In light of our demise in the Champions League it seems apt for Dirk Kuyt being our Tool of the Week. Kuyt gets the nod for, not only fouling Hleb and then claiming the referee was right not to give a penalty, but for being one ugly geezer. Well that as well as being a robbing scouse chav bstad who then dives himself in the second leg and tries to claim a pen of his own!

S0, Kuyt you cheating mofo, you're this weeks tools of the week.
